Kate recently understudied Dory and Mary in Imagination Stage's Helen Hayes Awards Recommended production of Dory Fantasmagory, directed by Kate Bryer, choreographed by Tony Thomas, and with Debbie Jacobson as the show's music director. Kate made her professional stage debut as Dory on June 28th, 2025 and has since went on for both Dory and Mary!
Dory Fantasmagory ran from June 18th - August 3rd, 2025 at the Lerner Theatre.

Kate recently graduated cum laude from American University with a B.A. in Musical Theatre and a Sociology minor! As a way to culminate her time in the Musical Theatre and Sociology departments at AU, Kate wrote a research paper and made a presentation about how both areas of study have shaped the actor she has become.

Kate recently played Doralee Rhodes in American University's production of 9 to 5, directed by Nikki Mirza, choreographed by Maurice Johnson, and with Kristin Stowell as the show's music director. This was her final mainstage production at AU!
9 to 5 ran from March 27th - 29th, 2025 at the Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre.
"Kate Lurie is Texas-styled Doralee, an absolute delight channeling Dolly Parton down to the twang and the vocal vibrato."
– DC Theater Arts
"Rounding out the trio is Doralee, played by Kate Lurie, a senior in CAS. Doralee brings the fun, country flair and southern charm, but is also presented by Lurie as a woman unafraid of being vulnerable or speaking her mind, regardless of what people think of her or her hometown’s culture."

Kate played Jael in American University's production of In Pieces, directed by Carl Menninger, choreographed by David Singleton, and with Debbie Jacobson as the show's music director. She loved getting to sing Joey Contreras' beautiful songs, "My Simple Request" and "Another New York Love Story" every night.
In Pieces ran from October 24th - 26th, 2024 at the Katzen Studio Theatre.
"Kate Lurie’s Jael is an adorably awkward twentysomething reminiscent of a New Girl Zooey Deschanel. Easily one of the most relatable characters in the piece, Kate has the audience transfixed with her soothing and spellbinding voice from the moment she opens her mouth."
– DC Theater Arts

Kate studied abroad in Arezzo, Italy with Accademia dell'Arte. She was part of their Physical Theatre Intensive during the summer of 2024. Highlights of this experience included movement work, accessing new qualities of her voice, and playing the piano!

Kate checked a dream role off of her bucket list by playing Little Sally in American University's production of Urinetown, directed by Kate Bryer, choreographed by Robert Bowen Smith, and with Debbie Jacobson as the show's music director.
Urinetown ran from February 22nd - 24th, 2024 at the Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre.
"The story’s self-awareness as a satirical musical comes from Officer Lockstock’s role as the narrator, and is accented by earnest and often profound interjections from Little Sally, an adorable, perceptive little girl. Through consistent use of colloquialisms and interjections directed at the audience, the duo (played by Jared Kirschenbaum and Kate Lurie respectively), proved to be a wonderfully sarcastic addition to the show’s snide nature."
– The Eagle

Kate played Persephone in American University's production of Daughters of Leda, co-directed by Shanara Gabrielle and Angelisa Gillyard. The show featured a newly-revised script from playwright Madeline Sayet.
Daughters of Leda ran from November 1st - 4th, 2023 at the Katzen Studio Theatre.
"However, Adam and Eve are not the only ones in the underworld seeking answers. Persephone, played with gusto by Kate Lurie, is challenging Hades"
– DC Theater Arts
